Pulau Payar – an island paradise
Imagine an island getaway that allows you to snorkel, have a great picnic and just imagine life away. Such a paradise can be found off the shores of Langkawi, just an hour’s boat ride away, in the little island of Pulau Payar. Upon purchasing a ticket at the terminal, your paradise awaits as you can observe the corals and sea fishes in the waters near the beaches. This means only one thing – even if you are a basic swimmer, you would not be disadvantaged from experiencing Pulau Payar to its fullest!
As this can be a very popular sight, do try to visit it during the Singapore-Malaysia’s off season. Generally, this means avoiding the school holiday periods of June and November-December. In all other periods, you would be able to enjoy the beaches all to yourself.
You would be pleased to note that the entire Pulau Payar package is affordable – my package of lunch, snorkeling and the boat ride had only cost RM120. Inspiration for a Bali-like environment is just a flight away! If you are planning Pulau Payar as part of your itinerary, do note that it is expected to take a full day, and you would probably only be able to return to Langkawi shores at around 4-5pm. Of course, this is ultimately boat operator-dependent, but most operators allow you to spend 4-5 hours on the island to snorkel, picnic and do jungle-trekking.
