The lunch time view with a difference!

Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora is truly a beautiful restaurant. The view of the aquarium is akin to a moving tapestry – and captivates its diners throughout the entire meal. While I have read many criticisms of the food in this restaurant, I decided to pay this restaurant a visit and check it out for myself. I had the set lunch, and I am pleased to say that the food is impeccable. However, there is room to improve as for its dessert. Unfortunately the service standard leaves much to be desired – but I find that to be true for most restaurants in Singapore anyway.

For the appetiser, I had the Smoked Scottish Salmon Gravlax (S$20), which also comes with Caviar Vinaigrette, Horse Radish & Crispy Bread Stick. I found that this was a rather innovative dish, and a delight to have. I would never have imagined placing pieces of salmon on a breadstick as an appetiser. In a way, it felt like a smoked salmon pocky!

My lunch party also tried the Sauteed Norwegian Prawn ($20), which is done Olio Aglio style, and comes with Parsley Pesto & Parmesan Espuma. I had a small bite of this – and found the prawn to be done fresh.

Here is also a picture of the Tuna Tartare ($20), which comes with Sous Vide Cucumber, Lemon Vinaigrette, Smoked Air & Caviar. I cannot comment on the taste – as I did not try it personally.

For mains, we chose the Crispy Boneless Confit of Duck Leg ($26), which comes with Japanese Sweet Potato, Caramelised Hazelnut and Pomegranate Molasses. I have tried a few duck confit in SIngapore, and found that this rates very well. The duck meat slips off the bone easily, and the flavours came well together. Some duck leg confit can be dry and done horribly wrong – but Ocean has outdone itself with this dish.

Unfortunately dessert disappointed greatly. I had the Chocolate Delights – which comes with a brownie and ice-cream. The brownie was very dry, and the ice cream was at best, mediocre. The presentation of the dish had lacked lustre – and it was not worth a shot.

The restaurant’s ambience is amazing. It is perfect for dates, family celebrations, and quiet conversations. The restaurant is pretty small, and can sit at best, 50. So do book your seats in advance! Getting to the restaurant may be an issue – especially if you do not drive. If you are not paying a visit to the SEA Aquarium, you can only enter via the carpark. The best way to get to this restaurant is to take the lift to B2 from the lobby of either Equarius Hotel or Hard Rock Hotel – and take a short walk to the restaurant.
